Car of Tomorrow is here today

Tomorrow is finally here in NASCAR, which begins the most radical on-track experiment in the sport’s history this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Car of Tomorrow, a NASCAR-developed vehicle that spent seven years in development, will make its long-awaited debut at one of the most rough-and-tumble tracks in NASCAR.

Some like it, others loathe it. Either way, it’s not going away any time soon.

Loomis not afraid of NASCAR change

Robbie Loomis, a former championship crew chief for Jeff Gordon and now executive vice president of Petty Enterprises, is one NASCAR veteran who isn’t letting this week’s introduction of the Car of Tomorrow make him crazy.

“Ten or 15 years ago, I was one of those guys that when (NASCAR) made a change, whatever it was, if it was one shock instead of two shocks, I was jumping up and down and thought the world was coming to an end,” Loomis said. “It would take me two weeks to get over it.

NASCAR Atlanta race ratings low

Inspection starts Thursday, a day earlier than usual, at Bristol, and Larry McReynolds says it should help the go-or-go-home drivers get maximum track time on Friday. But a tweak to qualifying could help them even more.

Rachel Lyndsee Otto, granddaughter of NASCAR co-founder Edgar Otto, was arrested and charged with impersonating a sheriff’s deputy, according to a report in the Palm Beach Post.

Fox Sports to release ratings tomorrow

Fox Sports publicist Tim Buckman told the Herald today that he will provide TV ratings for NASCAR’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway tomorrow at noon.

In a response to a Herald email, Buckman said Fox Sports releases the TV ratings each Thursday.

Sit tight till noon tomorrow, I guess.

Felix and Floyd got it fixed

Give Chip Ganassi and Felix Sabates (and of course Juan Pablo Montoya) some credit. Darrell Waltrip says the organization as a whole is turned around thanks to the dedication of these three guys.
