NASCAR’s preseason event lacks circus atmosphere

Posted by on February 7th, 2008

Media day at the Daytona 500 didn’t even have a prediction.

No doubt, NASCAR’s season-opening event has a long way to go before it reaches the level of the Super Bowl.

Although it was held under a huge, white tent outside Daytona International Speedway on Thursday, it was missing the circus-type atmosphere of Super Bowl media day.

Villeneuve faces difficulties as he enters NASCAR

Posted by on February 7th, 2008

Jacques Villeneuve was 13 when he told his mother he wanted to be a race car driver.

Hesitant to let her son enter into a career that had claimed the life of his father just one year earlier, she cited poor grades as a reason to hold the youngster back.

So Villeneuve promptly improved his marks. It was one of the earliest indications of how determined he was to race cars, and he used that resolve to build a highly successful open wheel career.

Posted by on February 7th, 2008

Just because Mark Martin scaled back to a part-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, don’t expect him to leave the sport any time soon.
