A NASCAR appeals committee on Monday overturned all the penalties levied against Rusty Wallace Racing for an infraction discovered on David Stremme’s car before the season-opening Nationwide Series race.

Stremme was docked 25 points, car owner Ed Rensi was docked 25 points and crew chief Steve Darne was suspended six races and fined $15,000 because NASCAR said the cover on the oil tank was not securely fastened following qualifying at Daytona.

Most of the attention was on Tony Stewart when he limped away from a hard wreck at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

And as the two-time NASCAR champion explained how the hit left him with a tingling sensation in his legs, few people even noticed that Robby Gordon had just pulled his crippled race car into the garage.

Their accidents were similar: Both drivers had a tire fail, causing their cars to slam hard into the wall.

Neither driver was hurt, but the long-term effects aren’t equal.

Red Bull Racing Team has confirmed that veteran NASCAR driver Mike Skinner will temporarily replace AJ Allmendinger in the No. 84 Red Bull Camry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series effective this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Skinner, a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, currently races full-time in the No. 5 Toyota Tundra.
