Allgaier beats Schrader in ARCA-RE/MAX event

Justin Allgaier won the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 for the second straight year Sunday, beating longtime NASCAR driver Ken Schrader by 0.216 seconds in the ARCA-RE/MAX Series event at Salem Speedway.

Allgaier put his Chevrolet ahead of Schrader’s Ford on lap 169 and held on for the final 36 laps on the 0.555-mile track. Matt Carter was third in a Ford, followed by Frank Kimmel, Scott Speed, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and John Wes Townley.

Bigger is not always better. Lee Spencer says it’s a lesson organizers at Pocono and California should take from Phoenix.

The Hot Pass: Johnson leads Hendrick revival

While Jimmie Johnson celebrated his Phoenix win, the rest of Hendrick Motorsports took a sigh of relief, Lee Spencer says.

It turns out Carl Edwards was almost as good on a 1-mile oval as he has been on the 1.5-mile tracks.

Edwards, who has won three of eight races this season, all on the intermediate tracks, came back from a lap down Saturday night to finish fourth in the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

The Roush Fenway Racing driver lost the lap early when he made a green flag pit stop only moments before a caution flag waved.
