Posted by on November 1st, 2009Jimmie Johnson walked up to crew chief Chad Knaus in the fading twilight at Talladega on Sunday, gave him a little bro-hug and exhaled.
“Dude, seriously?” Johnson asked after his improbable sixth-place finish extended his points lead to 184 with three races left in the season.

McMurray snaps 86-race winless streak

Three-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson is being credited with an eighth-place finish - enough to likely wrap up a NASCAR record fourth consecutive title.
The race ended under caution because of a last lap accident that sent Mark Martin’s car flipping across the track.
It was the second harrowing accident in the final five laps.

Newman OK after dangerous wreck at Talladega
Posted by on November 1st, 2009NASCAR red-flagged Sunday’s race at Talladega following a spectacular crash involving Ryan Newman with five laps remaining.
Newman was in the middle of a pack hurtling down the backstretch at the massive 2.66-mile tri-oval when he bumped into teammate Tony Stewart.
Newman’s No. 39 Stewart-Haas Chevrolet was then nudged by Marcos Ambrose, and Newman veered inside before flipping into the air and landing on the hood of Kevin Harvick’s car.
Ex-Mayfield lawyer Diehl says he hasn’t been paid

Bill Diehl, the most prolific attorney in Charlotte, N.C., represented Mayfield following his May suspension for failing a random drug test. The two split last month when Mayfield hired celebrity attorney Mark Geragos.
Diehl, at Talladega Superspeedway for Sunday’s race as a guest of team owner Rick Hendrick, said he would not discuss the reason for the split.
